Downieville Classic Postponed Until 2023

The Lost Sierra Is Slowly Opening For Cyclists

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has announced that the 2022 Downieville Classic, scheduled to run from August 4-7, 2022, has been postponed until 2023. When the race returns in 2023 it will be the 25th Anniversary of its running.

The Downieville Classic comprises the Festival, Cross Country race, and legendary Mountain World Championships including the Downieville Downhill. The Festival was rated as one of the top 10 mountain bike festivals in the world by Outside Magazine. The Cross Country race is one of the last remaining point-to-point XC races on the race calendar starting in the downtown of Sierra City and finishing on the Main Street of Downieville. The All Mountain starts with the XC race on Saturday, which racers must complete in under three hours. On Sunday, they descend over 5,000 feet from Packer Saddle to Downieville on the fabled Downieville Downhill course.

The heart and funding of the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is still being poured into Downieville, the birthplace of SBTS, as they continue to maintain the trails in the area. With regional projects in the works with the support of the Tahoe National Forest, they have new trails and enhancements to existing trails planned in the Downieville region and will continue to run their bike shop and guide service, Yuba Expeditions in town.

Despite the postponement, the Downieville Classic will be back and better than ever for its 25th Anniversary. “We’re disappointed to have to postpone the Downieville Classic, although it was a necessary decision. We’ve got big plans in the works for making the 25th Anniversary event in 2023 the best one yet! Says SBTS Executive Director Greg Williams.

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has many trail days planned for 2022 where they invite you to help maintain and build trails in the Lost Sierra. For the latest information and to stay abreast with all news from SBTS, subscribe to their email list at SierraTrails.org/news.
